3-Day workshop on “Numerical Computations in Structural and Fluid problems using MATLAB” from 11th to 13th January 2016
A three day workshop on ‘Numerical Computations in Structural and Fluid problems using MATLAB’ was organised during 11th to 13th Jan 2016 by the Department of Civil Engineering, Corporate Institute of Science and Technology, Bhopal. Around forty participants (teachers and a few final year students) from different engineering colleges attended the workshop. The workshop was sponsored by Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology.
The workshop has been unique in the sense that it gave to the participants, hands-on practice on MATLAB programming in Civil Engineering Applications. Dr. U. K. Choudhary from IIT BHU, Dr V. K. Gahlot from MANIT, Bhopal, Dr K. K. Punjabi from SATI, Vidisha, Prof Adarsh Swaroop from JNCT, Bhopal were the invited experts who delivered lectures on method of consistent deformation, Stiffness and flexibility methods of structural analysis and on Hydraulic transients and pipe network problems of fluid mechanics. Prof. Udit Veer Singh, Prof U. S. Vijaywargiya and Dr. D. K. Jain conducted hands-on sessions on MATLAB programming.
The workshop was inaugurated on 11th January 2016 by the former Director of Technical Education Dr. Y. K. Sharma as the Chief Guest. The closing ceremony was held on 13th January 2016 in which Dr. Ashish Dongre, the present DTE was the Chief Guest and Dr. S. K. Jain, Registrar RGPV was the Guest of Honour. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Dongre appreciated the use of MATLAB like tools in present day research work in the field of engineering. Dr S. K. Jain the Guest of Honour appreciated the novel attempt of organizing workshop on MATLAB. Certificates were awarded to the participants by Dr Dongre and Dr S. K. Jain. Dr N. K. Agrawal, Director of the institute expressed vote of thanks on the occasion.
MATLAB is a very powerful software tool finding applications in solving wide variety of engineering problems. The workshop gave the participants an opportunity to learn not only the basics of MATLAB but also its applications in various civil engineering problems. Through the hands on sessions they were actually able to perform the coding and finding the results which gave them a sense and feel of MATLAB programming in civil engineering applications. The workshop has immensely benefitted them in enhancing their skills. The participants highly appreciated the workshop.
